Procurement process behind abandoned Metro Mass Vehicles – Former MD, Nana Osei Bamfo

The former Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit, Nana Osei Bamfo, has attributed the growing number of damaged and abandoned buses to inefficiencies within the procurement system.
Speaking on Kessben FM with Wofa Kofi Appiah, Bamfo explained that lengthy and bureaucratic procurement procedures often delay the acquisition of spare parts and maintenance services needed to repair faulty vehicles.
According to him, these delays leave many buses grounded for extended periods, eventually leading to their deterioration. “The procurement process is the main reason why many of the damaged Metro Mass buses are left to rot,” he stated during the discussion.
The situation, he noted, not only affects operational efficiency but also limits the number of buses available to serve the commuting public, increasing pressure on Ghana’s transport system.
Metro Mass Transit has long been a key player in providing affordable public transportation across the country. However, concerns about fleet maintenance and service reliability continue to be raised by both industry observers and commuters.
