Aspiring NPP National Organizer Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah Speaks on LGBTQ+ Controversy
Story: Maurice Otoo

Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah, an aspiring National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has spoken on the ongoing national debate surrounding LGBTQ+ issues, particularly referencing a recent press conference led by Assin South MP, Ntim Fordjour.
In his remarks on Kessben Maakye, Yeboah criticized what he described as the silence of Sam George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Constituency, known for his strong stance on anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
According to him, Sam George has recently gone quiet on the matter after allegedly accepting inducements, a claim that has not been independently verified.
Yeboah further stated that Sam George had previously indicated his intention to continue pressing President John Dramani Mahama on the issue. In addition Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah accused Mahama of undermining the authority of the clergy and traditional leaders by suggesting that LGBTQ+ concerns are not among the most pressing issues facing the nation.
He added that Ghanaians would hold his leadership accountable in the 2028 general elections, suggesting that the electorate would “pay him back” for such positions.
On the legislative front, Yeboah clarified that the controversial anti-LGBTQ+ bill was not actually presented to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for assent. He referenced comments by Naa Asante Bediatuo, Secretary to the President, who reportedly communicated to the Clerk of Parliament acknowledging an attempt to submit the bill to the presidency in their absence.
However, he emphasized that the presidency maintained the position that the bill should not be submitted at all, arguing that some citizens had taken the matter to the supreme court to challenge the bill’s eligibility.
The LGBTQ+ debate continues to generate intense political, social, and religious discussions across Ghana, with key stakeholders expressing divergent views on the way forward.
