Food in abundance under NDC Gov’t – Buffer Stock Manager Phyllis Manu calls for more warehouses to store food
The Ashanti Regional Manager of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, Phyllis Manu, has stated that Ghana is currently experiencing a significant abundance of food under the NDC government.
Speaking on Kessben FM with Wofa Kofi Appiah, Madam Manu explained that increased agricultural output has led to a surplus of food across the region, reflecting improvements in production and supply systems. However, she cautioned that the growing volumes have outpaced existing storage capacity.
According to her, the lack of adequate warehouse infrastructure poses a risk of post-harvest losses, which could undermine the benefits of the increased production. She stressed that without proper storage, much of the excess food could go to waste.
Madam Manu has therefore called on the government, private sector, and stakeholders to invest in the construction of more warehouses to support the effective storage and management of food supplies. She noted that expanding storage facilities would help maintain food quality, reduce losses, and ensure stable prices on the market.
Her appeal highlights the urgent need to align agricultural production gains with strong storage and distribution systems to sustain food security in the country.
