The editor of 1957 News, Bernard Nene Odompleh, has responded to concerns surrounding a widely circulated video about patients being treated on the floor of Korle -Bu Teaching Hospital, clarifying that the footage was not generated using artificial intelligence(AI).
In an interview with Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kessben Maakye today, the editor explained that the scenes captured reflect a real situation at the hospital, where patients were reportedly left on the floor awaiting treatment.
He emphasized that portions of the video were deliberately blurred to protect the privacy of those affected patients.
According to the editor, 1957 News is a “formidable media brand” that upholds credibility and does not publish falsehoods. The editor further revealed that additional footage exists but has not yet been released.
He noted that the intent behind publishing the video was to draw the attention of relevant authorities to the conditions at the facility and prompt urgent intervention.
The issue has reportedly attracted high-level attention, with the sector minister contacting the editor and requesting a visit to the hospital following the video’s exposure.
The editor also expressed relief that the publicity has yielded some results, indicating that a benefactor has since donated beds to the facility.
However, he voiced disappointment over comments made by a representative of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, who reportedly suggested that the matter was not related to their institution and it is also an AI generated video.
The situation continues to spark public debate, as stakeholders call for accountability and improved healthcare conditions to alleviate the no-bed syndrome especially in our major referral hospitals.
