Ashanti South Police reject GHC150,000 bribe, turn it into evidence in drug case

A senior police officer in the Ashanti Region has revealed details of a recent anti-drug operation that led to the arrest of suspected cartel members.
Speaking on Kessben FM with host Wofa Kofi Appiah, DSP Bright Acheampong, Staff Officer for Ashanti South, disclosed that the suspects attempted to bribe officers with a substantial amount of money during the operation. According to him, the cartel offered GHC150,000 in a bid to evade arrest.
DSP Acheampong explained that the officers, however, rejected the offer and instead secured the money as evidence to support the case against the suspects. “We recently busted a cartel involved in drugs, and they offered us GHC150,000 as a bribe, but we used the money as evidence to file a case against them,” he stated.
He emphasized the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to professionalism and integrity, noting that officers are determined to clamp down on drug-related activities in the region. He also warned individuals involved in illegal drug trade to desist, stressing that the law will take its course.
The disclosure has drawn praise from sections of the public, with many commending the officers for resisting corruption and upholding justice in the fight against narcotics trafficking.
