NDC Grassroots’ Demand for Positions Unconstitutional – Dr. Anoma

Story: Maurice Otoo

A political analyst and lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Anoma, has described demands by some National Democratic Congress (NDC) grassroots members for political appointments as unconstitutional.

According to him, such demands contradict the Directive Principles of State Policy, which require public office holders to prioritize national interest rather than personal gain.

Dr. Anoma explained on Kessben TV’s Digest that, although party supporters often work hard during campaigns to help their party win power, it is inappropriate for them to expect “juicy” government positions as a reward.

“When you campaign for a party and it comes to power, it is only appropriate to continue advocating for the government’s policies to make them more popular and acceptable to the public, not to seek personal wealth or opportunities,” he said.

He warned that seeking appointments solely because one’s political party is in government encourages corruption and nepotism in public administration.

Dr. Anoma further described it as highly improper for politicians or party supporters to pursue positions primarily for their personal wellbeing once their party assumes office.

He therefore called for stronger regulations to discourage such practices, emphasizing that political power should be used to serve the broader interests of the state rather than individuals.

The KTU lecturer also stressed the importance of fairness in governance, noting that political leadership should serve all citizens and not only members of the ruling party.

Additionally he noted, it is a highly illegal and trisonable offence as a politician to seek only for your well-being because your party is in power.

He alleged that only one out of seven people in Ghana is an NDC member and that doesn’t warrant them to possess all opportunities in Ghana.

In conclusion, he charged the legislature to enact a law to restrain people from thinking that once their party is in power, it makes them automatic beneficiaries of all state assets and opportunities.
