Story: Maurice Otoo

The Head of Planning at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dominic Aboagye, has assured the public that Ghana has sufficient fuel reserves despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Making his assertion on Kessben TV’s Digest, he said, the NPA has issued a public statement urging Ghanaians not to panic about potential fuel shortages resulting from the geopolitical unrest in the Middle East.

Mr. Aboagye explained that the country currently has adequate fuel stock to meet consumer demand for about five weeks.

“We have adequate stock to meet the demand of our consumers. The stock can take us for five weeks,” he stated.

He added that the Authority is working closely with international partners to ensure continuous supply and stability in the petroleum sector.

Mr. Aboagye also disclosed that several fuel vessels are currently docked at the Tema Harbour awaiting discharge, which will further boost the country’s fuel reserves.

According to him, the NPA is constantly monitoring petroleum supply into the country while coordinating with international bulk suppliers and local refineries to maintain steady distribution

.He emphasized that clear communication during periods of uncertainty is critical to preventing panic buying and maintaining market stability.

“One of the key things to do when there is a crisis is to communicate, and that is what the NPA has done,”

Mr. Aboagye noted.

The assurance comes at a time when global oil markets are experiencing volatility due to rising tensions in the Middle East, raising concerns about potential disruptions to fuel supply chains worldwide.
