CPP Condemns Asiedu Nketiah’s Statement, Demands Apology and Refund for Affected Youth

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has condemned a statement made by Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), mocking Ghanaian youth who were denied entry into the security services.
In a statement, the CPP described the statement as “reckless” and questioned whether it reflects the official position of the government. The party noted that the NDC-led government, headed by John Mahama, had invited youth to apply for recruitment into the security services, including the Police, Immigration, Prisons, and Fire Services, despite knowing that they only had financial clearance for 5,000 personnel.
The CPP alleged that the government had collected approximately GH¢113 million from 500,000 applicants who paid GH¢220 as voucher fees, and that the statement by Asiedu Nketiah was a mockery of the “cheated and robbed” youth.
The party demanded that the government apologizes to the affected applicants and presents a new plan to employ them, and that the voucher monies be refunded as soon as possible. The CPP also threatened to sue the government on behalf of the applicants if the demands are not met.
The party emphasized that it is the duty of government officials to create employment opportunities for the unemployed youth, and that no amount of denial of decent jobs and opportunities will turn the Ghanaian youth into thieves or involve them in illegal acts.
The CPP has expressed solidarity with the affected youth and vowed to fight for justice.
Forward Ever!
