Ghana Kidney Association, in collaboration with PATH, MOH, and HHR, commemorates World Kidney Day

The Ghana Kidney Association, in partnership with PATH, the Ministry of Health, and Healthy Heart Africa (an AstraZeneca Health Equity program), observed World Kidney Day on Wednesday, March 11, in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. The event, themed ‘Kidney Health For All; Caring for All, Protecting the Planet,’ focused on bridging the gap between human health and environmental sustainability. The association emphasized the need for early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease, while promoting eco-friendly, sustainable kidney care models to reduce the environmental impact of dialysis and treatment.
A series of activities marked the celebration in Kumasi and Accra, including free screenings, outreach programs, and public lectures on kidney health. These events highlighted the importance of prevention and early detection of kidney disease, with experts providing valuable insights on managing and preventing the condition.
World Kidney Day, observed annually on the second Thursday of March, aims to raise awareness and promote early screening and detection of chronic kidney diseases. The Ghana Kidney Association used the occasion to stress the importance of sustainable practices in kidney care, noting that environmental sustainability is critical to protecting public health.
The association’s efforts are part of a broader initiative to improve kidney health outcomes in Ghana and promote sustainable healthcare practices. By emphasizing prevention, early detection, and eco-friendly care models, the Ghana Kidney Association aims to reduce the burden of kidney disease and promote a healthier environment.
