The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has officially sworn in Baba Jamal as the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso East Constituency following his victory in the recent by-election.

During the swearing-in ceremony in Parliament, the Speaker reminded the new lawmaker of the responsibility that comes with representing the people of the constituency.

According to Mr. Bagbin, Mr. Jamal made a conscious decision to relinquish his position as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria in order to serve in Parliament, a move he said must translate into dedicated service to the constituents.

“I will hold you accountable for the people of Ayawaso East Constituency,” the Speaker stated. “I recall you telling your constituents during your campaign that you will work tirelessly in serving them irrespective of their political affiliations.”

Mr. Bagbin added that he would personally monitor the performance of the new MP, referring to him affectionately as “my son,” while urging him to live up to the expectations of the people.

The Speaker also congratulated Mr. Jamal on his victory in the by-election and wished him well in his parliamentary duties.

As part of the induction process, Mr. Jamal was presented with the new Parliamentary Standing Orders to guide him in the discharge of his responsibilities as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East.

The by-election in Ayawaso East followed a vacancy in the seat, with Mr. Jamal emerging victorious and securing the mandate to represent the constituency in Parliament.
