African Women Leaders Network Ghana Calls for Action on International Women’s Day

The African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Ghana Chapter has marked International Women’s Day 2026 with a call to action, emphasizing the need for rights, justice, and action for all women and girls.

In a statement, Chairperson Dr. Charity Binka highlighted Ghana’s progress in advancing gender equality, including the passage of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act. However, she stressed that legislation alone is insufficient and called for full implementation, public awareness, and institutional accountability.

AWLN Ghana is urging stakeholders to prioritize women’s representation in governance, access to justice, girls’ education, digital inclusion, and economic empowerment. The network also emphasized the importance of collective action to challenge harmful norms and promote gender equality.

“We celebrate the resilience, leadership, and contributions of Ghanaian women and girls,” Dr. Binka said. “The time for promises has passed. The moment demands Rights. Justice. Action.”
