The Black man is capable of managing his own affairs, Ghana must aim for World Cup glory – Rev Vincent Kankam (Sofo Kankam)

On Ghana’s 69th Independence Day, Rev. Vincent Kankam poured a powerful message of confidence and ambition during his “Food For Thought” programme on Kessben FM.

Speaking on the nation’s progress and the broader aspirations of Africa, he emphasized that Africans must believe in their ability to achieve greatness on the global stage.

Rev. Kankam stated that the Black man is capable of managing his own affairs and excelling in every field, including sports. According to him, African nations should no longer be satisfied with merely participating in major international tournaments such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He urged Ghana to set its sights higher, arguing that simply making up the numbers at the World Cup should never be the goal. Instead, he said, the nation should approach the tournament with the determination to win it.

The outspoken broadcaster also criticized the tendency to celebrate reaching the semi-finals as a major achievement. While acknowledging that such milestones are commendable, he described excessive celebration of semi-final appearances as a “mediocre mindset” for African countries that have the talent and potential to go all the way.

Rev. Kankam called on players, football administrators, and the nation at large to adopt a winning mentality. In his view, Ghana and other African nations must begin to see the World Cup not just as a stage for participation, but as a competition they are fully capable of conquering.
