Ghana Free Zones Authority Board Member Donates to HS College Student

5Last Saturday, HS College held its sixth graduation and matriculation ceremony at GNAT Hall, Accra, with Bishop Dr. Stella N.A. Dartey, a member of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, gracing the occasion as the special guest of honour. The event was a resounding success, filled with excitement and surprises.
In her address, Bishop Dr. Dartey emphasized the need for the government to prioritize Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a key strategy for eliminating unemployment in the country. She stressed that TVET can also play a significant role in boosting Ghana’s fabrics and fashion industry, thereby contributing to the country’s economic growth.
Dr. Dartey’s message was not just a call to action but also a reflection of her personal commitment to promoting TVET. As a former training teacher who taught vocational skills, she is a strong advocate for the empowerment of young people through skills training. Her passion for TVET led her to fulfill a promise she made to a graduating student – to donate an industrial sewing machine. This gesture, she explained, was a demonstration of her love for TVET and its potential to transform lives.
“I was a training teacher teaching vocational skills and was among the pioneers to be used for teaching vocational skills during my days of teaching,” Dr. Dartey said. “My passion to support this lady with an industrial sewing machine is to affirm my love for TVET and to encourage others to do the same.”

Dr. Dartey used the opportunity to appeal to parents and the government to support HS College in its mission to train more students and pupils in vocational skills. “I urge all stakeholders to support HS College so they can train more students and pupils, thereby reducing the pressures on society,” she said.
In response, Mrs. Serwaa Akotey, the Principal of HS College, expressed her gratitude for the donation and praised Bishop Dr. Dartey for her commitment to promoting TVET. “We are excited to receive the industrial sewing machine on behalf of the student who graduated last weekend,” she said. “We appreciate Bishop Dr. Stella N.A. Dartey’s efforts in supporting our students and call on the government to partner with us to train more students under the National Apprenticeship program.”
The ceremony was attended by notable personalities, including Elder Henry Akotey, Vice Chancellor of HS College, staff from Graceland International School, and Hon. Richard Kwame Dziwornu, the incoming Assemblyman for Gonten Electoral Area.
The event highlighted the importance of TVET in Ghana’s development and the need for stakeholders to support initiatives that promote skills training and employment. HS College’s commitment to providing quality education and training to its students is commendable, and it is hoped that the government and other stakeholders will heed the call to support the college in its mission.
As Ghana strives to achieve its development goals, institutions like HS College and individuals like Bishop Dr. Stella N.A. Dartey are playing a crucial role in shaping the country’s future. Their efforts deserve to be recognized and supported.
The donation of the industrial sewing machine is expected to boost the student’s confidence and equip her with the skills needed to succeed in the fashion industry. It is also a testament to the impact that individuals can have on the lives of others when they invest in education and skills training.
In conclusion, the sixth graduation and matriculation ceremony of HS College was a memorable event that highlighted the importance of TVET and the need for stakeholders to support initiatives that promote skills training and employment. As Ghana moves forward, it is hoped that more individuals and organizations will follow the example of Bishop Dr. Stella N.A. Dartey and support the development of the country’s human capital.
