Constitution Review Committee should bar outgoing Governments from making appointments after election defeats – Nana Biribireba Boateng
Member of the NDC, Nana Biribireba Boateng, has called on the Constitution Review Committee to consider introducing legal reforms that would prevent outgoing governments from making last-minute appointments after losing general elections.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Boateng argued that allowing defeated administrations to continue making key appointments after election results are declared undermines the spirit of democratic transition.
According to him, once a government has lost the mandate of the people at the polls, it should refrain from taking major decisions, particularly appointments to public offices, that could bind the incoming administration.
“The Constitution Review Committee should consider making laws to inhibit outgoing governments from making appointments when they lose elections,” he stated during the radio discussion. “It will help strengthen our democracy and ensure fairness in political transitions.”
Boateng noted that such reforms would promote transparency, reduce political tension during transition periods, and protect state institutions from perceived partisanship.
