Former NPP Financier George Oti Bonsu Announces Exit, Alleges Internal Sabotage and Financial Dispute

Story: Maurice Otoo

Dr. George Oti Bonsu, a former financier of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially announced that he is no longer affiliated with the party, citing internal conflicts, alleged false accusations, and unresolved financial issues.

Speaking on why he is being referred to as a former financier of the NPP, Dr. Oti Bonsu clarified on Kessben Maakye, that, he is currently not a registered member of the party due to what he described as “continual deliberate actions” against him.

According to him, issues involving individuals including Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Kofi Dwoma and Charles Antwi Boasiako ( Wontumi) among others, as well as what he termed false accusations, pushed him out of the party.

“I am not a member of the NPP because of continual deliberate acts and false accusations that have pushed me off the party,” he stated.

Dr. Oti Bonsu indicated that he had consistently funded and supported the NPP without seeking any political appointment in return. He disclosed that he donated several vehicles to support party activities.

He further alleged that he was publicly attacked by some party figures and revealed that he had held meetings with former President Agyekum Kuffour, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Justin Frimpong Kodua, Ntim Fordjour and other top ranked party officials regarding party matters but proved futile.

The former financier said he now believes the NPP is “no longer attractive” and accused the party of losing its appeal.

He also claimed that he catered for 37 NPP Members of Parliament during an Islamic festivity and supported them with several items.

Dr. Oti Bonsu disclosed that he was approached in 2023 over a GH¢2,000,000 issue related to GIHOC distilleries ( NPP affiliated company) when the agency was allegedly on the verge of closure. However, he claims he is yet to receive his money.

He further alleged that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rather stepped in to assist him in reclaiming his funds.

Touching on youth unemployment, Dr. Oti Bonsu said he has established what he calls “The Base” movement to address concerns of young people. He described it as a third force that could eventually evolve into a political party in the future.

His comments are expected to spark reactions within political circles as the NPP continues efforts to rebuild and reposition ahead of future political contests.
