Preserving beans with cement causes kidney and prostate damage – Ashanti Regional FDA boss, Nathaniel Nkrumah warns

The Ashanti Regional Head of the Food and Drugs Authority, Nathaniel Nkrumah, has cautioned traders against the harmful practice of preserving beans with cement, warning that it poses serious health risks.
Speaking on Kessben FM with host Wofa Kofi Appiah, Mr. Nkrumah stated that chemicals from cement can contaminate beans during storage, making them unsafe for consumption.
According to him, continuous consumption of such contaminated food may lead to kidney damage and increase the risk of prostate complications. He described the practice as dangerous and unacceptable, stressing that food safety must not be compromised for profit.
Mr. Nkrumah assured listeners that the FDA will intensify inspections in markets across the Ashanti Region and prosecute offenders who endanger public health. He also encouraged consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious food preservation practices to the authorities.
He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to ensuring that only safe and properly handled food products reach the public.
