Government to establish 3 public universities in Kintampo, Jaasikan, and Damongo

The Government of Ghana is set to establish three new public universities in the Bono East, Oti, and Savannah regions respectively.
This forms part of the broader initiative to expand higher education and support balanced regional growth.
It is also expected to meet the rising demand for quality tetiary education.
President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama made this known when he delivered the State of the Nations address (SONA), in Parliament on 27th February, 2026.
” Mr. Speaker, to expand access to higher education and support balanced regional growth, and meet the rising demand for quality tetiary education, we have secured international partnerships to establish two new public universities. One in Kintampo in the Bono East Region. Another in Jaasikan in the Oti region.
I am happy to announce also that the grant has been sourced from China to establish a new public university in Damongo in the Savannah region” Mr. Mahama highlighted.
He thus acknowledged the pivotal role of technical universities in closing the skills gap and reducing youth unemployment, adding that the Mahama led administration will devise three new technical universities.
“In this regard, government will establish three new technical universities to strengthen skills development, enhance innovation and support national industrialization efforts” he emphasized.
