Residents of Sokoban Wood Village and New Site in Kumasi have staged a protest over the deplorable condition of their main access road, describing it as a serious health and security threat to the community.

The demonstrators expressed frustration over the excessive dust generated by vehicles plying the untarred stretch, which they say has led to a rise in respiratory illnesses, particularly among children and the elderly.

According to the residents, the situation has become unbearable, as the dusty environment continues to affect their daily lives and businesses.

Beyond the health concerns, the residents also raised alarm over growing security threats in the area. They alleged that the poor nature of the road has created opportunities for armed robbers to attack unsuspecting commuters, both during the day and at night. Some victims, they claimed, have been assaulted and left with severe injuries.

The protesters accused Kofi Job Construction of abandoning the road project since 2021, leaving the community to endure years of hardship without any visible intervention.

Addressing the media during the protest, Nana Boakye Yiadom, Kaasehene–Adontehene, expressed deep concern about the prolonged neglect of the project and called on the government to urgently step in to ensure its completion.

Some residents who spoke to the media described the situation as frustrating and unacceptable, appealing to the government and relevant authorities to prioritise the road and restore safety and comfort to the community.
