Ghana Reverts Kotoka International Airport Name to Accra International Airport

The Government of Ghana has officially renamed Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport, reverting to its original name.
The airport, originally known as Accra International Airport, had been redesignated to Kotoka International Airport. The government has decided to restore the airport’s former name, which is internationally recognized.
The change won’t affect airport operations, safety standards, or international travel arrangements. The airport code “ACC” remains unchanged, as per International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) records.
The renaming process will involve updating official documentation, airport signage, digital platforms, and related materials.
The public and stakeholders are requested to support the transition.

RENAMING OF KOTOKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO ACCRA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
1. The Ministry hereby informs the general public that the Government of Ghana has officially reverted the name of Kotoka International Airport to its original name, Accra International Airport.
2. The facility was originally known as Accra International Airport before its redesignation. The government has considered it appropriate to restore the Airport to its former and internationally recognised name.
3. This change will not affect airport operations, safety standards, or international travel arrangements. Notably, within the records of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the airport code has remained “ACC”.
4. Implementation of the renaming will involve the systematic update of official documentation, statutory instruments where necessary, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation publications, and related communication materials.
5. The general public, stakeholders, and international partners are kindly requested to support and cooperate with the relevant authorities to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.
6. The Ministry appreciates the continued cooperation of all stakeholders.
