Aggrieved teachers picket Ges headquarters over delayed staff IDs

Story: Maurice Otoo

About seventy trained teachers on Wednesday picketed the premises of the Ghana Education Service in Accra, protesting delays in the issuance of their staff identification numbers and access to allowances.

The teachers, drawn from the 2023 and 2024 validation batches, gathered in the early hours wearing red armbands and holding placards to register their displeasure.

They said they have been at post for nearly 14 months but are yet to receive staff IDs, a requirement for salary-related benefits and allowances.

Led by spokesperson Daniel Aidoo, the group alleged that colleagues validated just a years ago have already received their IDs, describing their situation as unfair and worrying.

They further claimed that repeated attempts to obtain clear explanations from their employer have yielded no results. Speaking to Kessben Media, the teachers stressed that the ID numbers would enable them to access their legitimate entitlements, but no concrete action has been taken so far.

According to them, the delay has caused significant financial hardship, especially amid current economic pressures.

The group warned that if authorities fail to address the issue promptly, they would be left with no option but to pursue legal action to compel resolution.
