Members of Lions Clubs International in Accra have organized a public awareness campaign on childhood cancer, highlighted by a charity walk and donation drive aimed at supporting affected children.

The humanitarian group embarked on a symbolic walk from the 37 Military Hospital to the Accra Mall to demonstrate their commitment to helping eradicate cancer and to promote early detection and treatment.

The exercise formed part of activities marking the month of February as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The club also noted that in previous months it undertook other health-related interventions, including eye treatment initiatives in October, diabetes support programmes in November and hunger reliefs programmes in December and January.

As part of the outreach, the organization donated about 1,000 toys to the World Child Cancer to bring relief and encouragement to children undergoing treatment.

Members further appealed to corporate institutions and the general public to extend support to children admitted to cancer treatment facilities across the country.

Speaking to Kessben Media, the District Marketing/Public Relations Officer D418, Lion Deloris Enyo Awalime urged parents to pay close attention to their children’s health, stressing that a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence when detected early.

The Country Director of World Child Cancer, Adwoa Pinamang, expressed gratitude to Lions Club International for the gesture and assured that the items would be used responsibly to support children battling cancer.

Madam Pinamang said , sustained public education and early medical attention remain key in reducing childhood cancer mortality in Ghana.
