Mahama to host “Accra reset” side event ahead of AU heads of state assembly

President John Dramani Mahama will, on Saturday, host an Accra Reset side event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, ahead of the official opening of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
Dubbed “Addis Reckoning,” the high-level event will bring together several African leaders, chief executives from the private sector, and representatives of multilateral organisations to deliberate on strategies aimed at repositioning Africa’s economic and developmental trajectory.
Key issues to be discussed include the development of a new framework for free movement and talent circulation across the continent, supported by a proposed digital passport system. Participants will also examine technological innovations to help Africa extract greater value from its mineral resources, reforms in global health governance and institutions, and partnerships between African countries and leading Global South nations to harness the potential of artificial intelligence.
President Mahama is expected to use the platform to advance the Accra Reset agenda, which promotes African-led solutions to the continent’s development challenges while strengthening strategic cooperation among African states and global partners.
Other leaders serving on the Accra Reset Presidential Council are expected to join President Mahama at the event, including key advocates of the “sovereign prosperity spheres” concept, which seeks to promote regional economic collaboration and shared prosperity across Africa.
The Addis Reckoning side event is expected to influence policy discussions ahead of the AU Assembly, as African leaders continue to explore innovative approaches to economic transformation, technological advancement, and sustainable development across the continent.
