JUST IN: Nana Agradaa’s 15-year jail term slashed to 12 months

The Amasaman High Court has reduced the prison term of controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa to 12 calendar months, after ruling that her original sentence was excessive.

In its judgment, the court upheld her conviction but used its discretionary powers to vary the punishment, cutting it down from the 15 years of hard labour imposed by the trial court. The judges described the initial sentence as harsh and disproportionate to the circumstances of the case.

The new sentence is backdated to July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction, meaning Nana Agradaa will serve a total of one year in prison.

While the court acknowledged that the offence warranted punishment, it maintained that the severity of the earlier sentence went beyond what was reasonable, making a reduction necessary.

Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess who later became an evangelist, was convicted earlier this year, a decision that generated widespread public discussion and legal debate. Following the appellate court’s ruling, her conviction still stands, but her custodial sentence has been substantially reduced.
