The New Patriotic Party’s member of Parliament for the Achiase Constituency, Hon. Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo has weighed in on the party’s post-election outlook, arguing that while Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia may have lost a traditional stronghold in 2024 election he remains a viable and marketable presidential candidate if properly positioned by the party.

In a discussion with Kojo Preko Dankwa on “Kessben Maakye” today Tuesday February 5, 2026, Hon. Marfo, said the choice of a presidential candidate should be guided by maturity, knowledge, credibility, patience, tolerance and focus, stressing that these qualities must outweigh sentiments that often trail internal party contests.

He noted that although Dr. Bawumia has emerged as the NPP’s flagbearer, winning the 2028 general election will largely depend on how effectively the party presents and markets him to the Ghanaian electorate.

Hon. Marfo acknowledged that the former Vice President faces significant challenges, particularly public perceptions surrounding economic management and unfulfilled campaign promises.

However, he maintained that these hurdles are not insurmountable if the party adopts a strategic communication approach.

Drawing comparisons, he said the NPP could take lessons from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), whose consistency in messaging, candidate and strategy helped them regain power in the 2024 general elections.

“The NPP must pick up the pieces and deliberately market the candidate well,” he emphasized.

He further expressed satisfaction with the party’s internal processes, noting that the election was the most violent free, incident free and credible exercise.

“I am happy no party official lured the process to favour any candidate. The process was free, fair, peaceful and transparent, and that is what we prayed for,” he stated.

Hon. Marfo concluded by calling for unity, reconciliation, and dialogue within the party, urging members who may feel aggrieved over one issue or another to come together in the collective interest of the NPP ahead of future electoral battles.
