NSA Visits Forces SHTS Over MBW Curriculum Impact

A delegation from the National Service Authority (NSA) yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Forces Senior High Technical School (FSHTS) at Burma Camp in Accra to familiarise itself with the implementation, progress and impact of the My Better World Curriculum being delivered in the school.
The visit formed part of efforts by the Authority to monitor and evaluate the programme implemented in partnership with CAMFED Ghana, aimed at empowering learners, especially girls, through life skills, mentorship and educational support.
Collaboration
Speaking during the visit, the Director of Policy Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation (PPRME) at the NSA, Dr Mrs Elizabeth L.B. Zotorvie, underscored the importance of the collaboration between CAMFED Ghana and the Authority in improving learning outcomes and personal development among students in beneficiary schools.
“The partnership between CAMFED Ghana and the National Service Authority is deliberate and strategic. It is about ensuring that learners, particularly girls, are given the right tools to thrive academically and socially,” she said.
She explained that the My Better World Curriculum had been carefully designed to equip learners with self-confidence, critical thinking abilities and creativity, which are essential skills for personal growth and responsible citizenship.
Programme
“The programme, I must say, is not only about books and classrooms. It is about building confidence, nurturing creativity and helping learners to think critically as they explore their full potential,” she noted.
According to her, beyond academic excellence, the programme seeks to nurture well-rounded individuals who are empowered to explore opportunities, solve problems and make meaningful contributions to society.
She therefore charged school authorities to ensure that the full benefits of the programme were extended to every learner in the school, stressing that effective supervision and support at the school level were critical to maximising its impact.
“We want every learner to feel the impact of this initiative. When fully implemented, the results will speak for themselves,” she added.
Commendation
She further commended the Learner Guides, who are National Service Personnel facilitating the curriculum, for their dedication and commitment to mentoring and guiding students.
For his part, the Headmaster of FSHTS, Lieutenant Colonel Dr Eric Sefa Boye, expressed appreciation to the NSA delegation for the visit and reaffirmed the school’s full commitment to the successful implementation of the programme.
“We are grateful for this visit and the continuous support. As a school, we are fully committed to ensuring that this programme succeeds and benefits our learners,” he said.
He noted that the partnership had significantly improved access to education for many young girls who, under normal circumstances, would have struggled to enrol or remain in school due to financial constraints.
“A lot of young girls who would otherwise not have been able to stay in school are continually receiving support, which has greatly reduced the burden on parents and guardians,” he stated.
Describing the collaboration as laudable, he appealed for the programme to be expanded to other senior high schools in Accra, noting that many less-privileged girls in the capital could equally benefit from such targeted interventions.
“It is important that this model is worth expanding, especially in Accra, where there are many vulnerable but brilliant girls in other senior high schools. Besides, it will be very helpful in the long run,” he added.
The Teacher Mentor at FSHTS, Ms Winifred Ninlaara also thanked the NSA for partnering with CAMFED Ghana to positively impact learners through the My Better World Curriculum.
Support
“The support we receive, including groceries, toiletries, shoes and school uniforms, has made a real difference in the lives of our learners. It is a step in the right direction, and may God bless you,” she said.
Some beneficiaries of the CAMFED Ghana support could not hide their joy as they expressed gratitude to the NSA and CAMFED Ghana for the assistance, which they said had transformed their academic journey and renewed their hope for a better future.
“The support has motivated us to study harder and believe in ourselves. We are thankful to CAMFED Ghana and NSA for thinking about us. But for your support, some of us wouldn’t have been here. We are grateful,” they added.
