The campaign team of former Vice President H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has strongly rejected allegations made by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, describing them as false, baseless, and damaging to party unity ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Bawumia Campaign expressed concern over a recent video circulating online in which Mr. Agyapong, a fellow contender in the NPP race, accused Dr. Bawumia of making remarks about the health status of the late Prof. Albert Adu Boahen and allegedly influencing a decision not to contest the party’s 1996 presidential primaries.
The campaign categorically denied the claims, insisting that Dr. Bawumia has never made such statements.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has never made the statements attributed to him,” the statement said, challenging Mr. Agyapong to produce video or audio evidence to substantiate his allegations.
The campaign further condemned comments in which Mr. Agyapong allegedly described Dr. Bawumia as a liar and unfit for leadership, describing such remarks as unfair and unwarranted.
According to the statement, false attributions and personal attacks risk misleading the public and inflaming tensions within the ruling party at a critical time.
“In our political discourse, accuracy matters. Words matter,” the campaign emphasized, warning that misinformation could undermine internal cohesion within the NPP.
The Bawumia Campaign has therefore called on Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to issue an urgent apology to the Vice President for what it described as false and damaging statements.
Signed by Nana Akomeah, Chairman of Campaign Communications, the statement reaffirmed Dr. Bawumia’s belief that leadership requires the expression of views without personal insults, tantrums, or misinformation, and must always be guided by truthfulness, decorum, and restraint.
The exchange comes as tensions heighten among aspirants vying for the NPP’s presidential slot ahead of the party’s internal elections.
