Kessben Maakye crew lament over high hookup culture & young men sleeping with sugar mummies for money in tertiary schools

The Kessben FM Maakye crew, Wofa Kofi Appiah and Kwabena Owusu Dankwah, have expressed deep concern over what they describe as the rising hookup culture and the increasing trend of young men engaging in relationships with “sugar mummies” for financial gain in Ghanaian tertiary institutions and society at large.
Speaking on the Maakye morning show, the duo lamented that the phenomenon is gradually eroding moral values and reshaping how relationships are perceived among the youth. According to them, many young people are now prioritizing quick financial benefits over personal development, education, and long-term goals.
They noted that while economic pressures contribute to the situation, normalizing transactional relationships, especially within tertiary schools, poses serious social and psychological risks. Wofa Kofi Appiah stressed that such practices can distract students from their academic pursuits and expose them to exploitation and health risks.
Kwabena Owusu Dankwah added that the issue is no longer limited to young women, as more young men are reportedly sleeping with older, financially stable women in exchange for money, gifts, or social status. He described the trend as a worrying reflection of societal challenges and declining mentorship for the youth.
The hosts called on parents, educational authorities, religious bodies, and policymakers to play more active roles in guiding young people, promoting values of hard work and dignity, and addressing the economic and social factors fueling the trend.
