The Ministry of Health has announced plans to set up an investigative committee to probe revelations contained in a report by The Fourth Estate on the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge.
This follows the circulation of an investigative report by The Fourth Estate on social media, which alleges systemic practices at the Ridge Hospital that impose undue financial and administrative burdens on patients seeking medical care.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 19, the Ministry described some of the issues raised as serious and deserving of thorough examination.
The Ministry expressed sympathy with patients and relatives who may have been subjected to unprofessional conduct in any health facility across the country, reiterating the government’s commitment to reducing the stress and financial burden patients face in accessing healthcare.
While acknowledging concern over the findings contained in the report, the Ministry said it was particularly surprised by some of the revelations, prompting the decision to institute a formal probe into the matter.
According to the statement, the Ministry is in the process of constituting an investigative committee to look into the issues raised in the report.
The committee is expected to submit its findings within 14 working days.
The Ministry further indicated that it expects the full cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, including The Fourth Estate, to help establish the facts and provide additional details necessary to ensure accountability and improve service delivery within the health system.
The Ministry assured the public that the outcome of the investigation will guide measures aimed at strengthening professionalism and enhancing healthcare delivery nationwide.
