AFCA Celebrates Decade of Excellence as 22 Students Graduate at 2025 Ceremony

The Africa College of Aviation (AFCA) has marked its 10th anniversary alongside its 2025 graduation ceremony, held under the theme “Gateways to Greatness: Celebrating the Journey, Igniting the Future.” The event saw 22 students graduate, including two international students from Mali and Niger, underscoring the institution’s growing regional appeal.

Speaking to the media at the ceremony, Founder of AFCA, Confidence Kwaku Akaponi, described the occasion as both symbolic and reflective, noting that the graduation coincided exactly with the institution’s decade-long journey in aviation training.

He said despite numerous challenges over the past ten years, AFCA has remained committed to producing industry-ready professionals, many of whom are now employed across airlines and the wider aviation and tourism sectors in Ghana.

“This year’s graduation is very significant because it coincides with our 10th anniversary as an institution. The theme speaks directly to our journey — from humble beginnings, through challenges, to becoming a recognised aviation training centre. Today, many of our graduates are working with airlines and in key aviation-related roles, which confirms that AFCA has stayed true to its mission,” he said.

Mr. Akaponi encouraged young people with aspirations in aviation to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the college, stressing that AFCA’s training meets international standards.

“Aviation is a global industry, and our approach has always been to train students to meet international standards. If you dream of a career in aviation, AFCA provides the right foundation, discipline, and professionalism required to succeed anywhere. The future of aviation depends on well-trained people, and that is what we continue to deliver,” he added.

The Chairman of the occasion, Solomon Antwi Mireku, highlighted the close relationship between aviation and tourism, urging the country to place greater emphasis on developing the tourism sector to maximise the benefits of aviation growth.

He also advised the graduating students to remain focused and apply the skills they have acquired as they step into the professional world.

“Aviation is a major gateway to tourism, and tourism remains one of the strongest drivers of national development. As graduates, you must see yourselves as ambassadors of the industry. Go out there, establish yourselves, and make practical use of the training you have received. The journey does not end today; it is only the beginning,” he stated.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of General Services at the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ben Anane-Nsiah, emphasised the international nature of the aviation industry and the responsibility that comes with working in such a global environment.

He reminded the graduates that professionalism and good conduct are essential, as they will be interacting with people from diverse backgrounds entering the country for tourism and other activities.

“The aviation sector operates on a global scale, and as you join the workforce, you must understand the bigger picture. You will be dealing with international travellers, tourists, and business people, and your attitude matters. Professionalism, discipline, and respect for standards are critical because you are representing not only your institution, but Ghana as a whole,” he admonished.

The graduation ceremony also highlighted AFCA’s growing international recognition, with students from Mali and Niger successfully completing their training, reflecting the institution’s vision of becoming a centre of aviation excellence in Africa.
