Take Care of State Assets, Vice President Urges Metro Mass Staff

The Vice President of the Republic, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called for improved performance, accountability, and proper maintenance of state assets to help reset Ghana’s public transport system, as she paid a working visit to Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL).

Speaking to management and staff of the state-owned transport company during her visit, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said government expects to see sustained and improved results from Metro Mass in the coming years.

“The next time we come here, we want to see the same results, and even more. We want to see better. We want to see a Ghana resetting through Metro Mass,” she stated.

The Vice President acknowledged the efforts of ministers, management, and staff of the company, noting that their work directly affects communities across the country who rely on public transportation.

“I know the ministers are playing their roles. I know management is playing its role, and so are all of you, especially the people who depend on our work—the communities,” she said.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured Metro Mass of government’s commitment to retooling the company, including the provision of additional buses to enhance service delivery.

“Government is willing to play its role to retool Metro Mass and supply even more buses,” she emphasized.

Addressing concerns about the lifespan of buses, the Vice President urged staff to take good care of government property, stressing that public assets belong to all Ghanaians.

“Yes, ten years is a long time, but we also live in a country where even older vehicles are still functioning. That tells us that we must take good care of property that comes from government, because that is all of us,” she noted.

She said she had taken note of concerns raised by staff and management and described them as valid.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang concluded by commending workers for their dedication and encouraging them to do more to improve public transport services in the country.
