Government Ready to Retool Metro Mass, Supply More Buses – Vice President

The Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) as part of efforts to improve public transportation and support Ghana’s national reset agenda.

Speaking during a working visit to the state-owned transport company, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said government is prepared to invest in retooling Metro Mass and increasing its bus fleet to enhance service delivery across the country.

“Government is willing to play its role to retool Metro Mass and supply even more buses,” the Vice President stated.

She noted that an efficient public transport system remains critical to economic activity and social development, particularly for communities that rely on Metro Mass for affordable mobility.

The Vice President acknowledged the roles being played by ministers, management, and staff of the company, stressing that collective responsibility is key to achieving sustainable improvements.

“I know the ministers are playing their roles, management is playing its role, and so are all of you, especially the communities that depend on our work,” she said.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also urged staff to take good care of public assets, emphasizing that government property belongs to all Ghanaians.

“We live in a country where even vehicles older than ten years are still functioning. That tells us we must take good care of property that comes from government, because that is all of us,” she added.

She assured management and staff that concerns raised during the engagement had been noted and described them as valid, encouraging continued dedication and professionalism.

The Vice President concluded by commending workers for their efforts and urging them to do more to reposition Metro Mass as a reliable, efficient, and people-centered public transport provider.
