If the Gov’t wants the people to reduce prices & service, why can’t the Gov’t reduce the prices of things they control – NPP’s Dr Owusu Poku

Dr. Owusu Poku, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has questioned the government’s approach to price reductions, arguing that calls for traders and service providers to lower prices should begin with the state itself.
Speaking on Kessben FM with host KOD, Dr. Poku reacted to the recent appreciation of the cedi and the decline in the dollar rate.
According to him, while government officials continue to urge businesses to reduce the prices of goods and services following the fall in the dollar, little attention is paid to prices of items and services directly controlled by the government. “If the government wants the people to reduce prices and service charges, why can’t the government also reduce the prices of the things it controls?” he asked.
Dr. Poku noted that utility tariffs, fees, and other government-controlled charges significantly affect the cost of living and business operations.
He argued that a reduction in these areas would not only ease the burden on citizens but also encourage private sector players to follow suit.
