Ken Ofori-Atta’s Conduct Creating Perception That NPP Is Corrupt – Alexander Ackuaku

Former NDC parliamentary candidate for the Bortianor–Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency, Alexander Ackuaku, has stated that the actions of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, coupled with the defence mounted by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are creating the impression that the party is corrupt.

Speaking on Kessben FM’s morning show, Kessben Maakye, Mr. Ackuaku questioned the motive behind Mr. Ofori-Atta’s decision not to return to Ghana despite calls for him to account for his stewardship as Finance Minister. He stressed that Ghana is not a “banana republic” and assured that the former minister would receive a fair hearing should he submit himself to the laws of the country.

According to Mr. Ackuaku, claims that Mr. Ofori-Atta travelled abroad for medical treatment have proven to be untrue. He alleged that the former minister deliberately sought to buy time in order to evade accountability following the change in government.

“It is now clear that Mr. Ofori-Atta wanted to buy time to run away from accountability after the change in government,” he stated.

Mr. Ackuaku further emphasized that he would not oppose investigations into any member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused of corruption.

He therefore believes that any NPP member who defends Mr. Ofori-Atta in this matter is indirectly sending a message to Ghanaians that the NPP tolerates corruption.
