30,000 classrooms across Ghana are without teachers – Wofa Kofi Appiah alarmed
Host of Kessben Maakye, Wofa Kofi Appiah, has expressed deep concern over a recent education research report by Eduwatch which reveals that about 30,000 classrooms across Ghana are without teachers.
Speaking on his morning show on Kessben FM, Wofa Kofi Appiah described the findings as troubling and a major threat to the country’s educational future.
According to him, the absence of teachers in such a large number of classrooms undermines efforts to improve learning outcomes and jeopardizes the quality of education being delivered to Ghanaian children. He questioned how effective teaching and learning can take place when pupils are left unattended or forced to learn without trained instructors.
Wofa Kofi called on the government and education authorities to treat the issue as a national emergency. He stressed the need for urgent recruitment, fair posting, and improved conditions of service to attract and retain teachers, especially in deprived and rural areas.
Reacting to the Eduwatch research, the broadcaster urged stakeholders in the education sector to move beyond rhetoric and implement practical solutions.
He warned that failure to address the teacher shortage could have long-term consequences for national development and human capital growth.
