The dollar has come down, but things are more expensive now than in Akufo-Addo’s era – Dennis Miracles Aboagye cannot understand

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has questioned the government’s economic narrative, citing the rising cost of utilities despite claims of currency stability.
Reacting to recent calls for the public to remain calm because the dollar is reportedly performing well against the cedi, Aboagye argued that the reality on the ground tells a different story.
He revealed that his electricity bill has increased from GHS 3,600 in 2024 to GHS 4,613, representing a 28 percent rise within 12 months.
According to him, such sharp increases in utility costs undermine assurances that the economy is improving. He stressed that ordinary Ghanaians measure economic performance not by exchange rate statistics alone, but by their daily expenses, especially essential services like electricity.
