Gob3 leads as it breaks among the Top 5 foods Ghanaians spent more money on in 2025 – Statistics reveal

In 2025, the cost of everyday eating continued to take a large bite out of household budgets across Ghana. While comprehensive annual consumer expenditure figures for 2025 are still being finalized, market and price statistics clearly show that commonly eaten foods, particularly gari and beans gob3, were among the most significant items Ghanaians spent money on throughout the year.
One of the standout trends in 2025 was the sharp increase in prices for staple ingredients. Beans, the core of the beloved gob3 dish, recorded a year-on-year price increase of over 80%, making it one of the most inflation-hit foods in the country. Combined with soaring prices of key accompaniments such as dried pepper, this pushed the overall cost of preparing gari and beans gobe higher for consumers.
Economists and market watchers note that even as Ghana’s overall inflation rate eased during the year, food prices remained a dominant part of household spending, with staples and locally produced foods continuing to exert pressure on budgets. Traditional meals such as waakye, fufu, kenkey with fried fish, and gobe were among the most commonly purchased foods, reflecting both cultural preferences and necessity amid tighter spending.
