Bawumia Running Issue-Based Campaign, Best Bet for NPP Victory-Kofi Tonto

Political aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kofi Tonto, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful remains the leading contender among all candidates vying for the party’s presidential slot. According to him, Dr. Bawumia continues to distinguish himself as the most prepared candidate ahead of the party’s internal elections.

Mr. Tonto made the remarks during an interview with Moro Awudu on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV. He explained that Dr. Bawumia is using the ongoing campaign to remind delegates of his experience, competence, and record in government.

The New Patriotic Party is scheduled to hold its presidential candidates’ election on 31st January, 2025, an exercise that will determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections. Several aspirants are contesting, but Mr. Tonto insists Dr. Bawumia remains the standout choice.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia is the most prepared candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections, citing his years of experience in public service, economic management, and governance. He noted that these credentials place the former Vice President ahead of his competitors.

“Bawumia is the only person with ideas and vision that can help Ghana,” Mr. Tonto said. He stressed that the former Vice President’s policy-driven approach demonstrates a clear understanding of the country’s challenges and the solutions required to address them.

Mr. Tonto further highlighted that Dr. Bawumia is running an issue-based campaign focused on ideas rather than personal attacks. He described the campaign as mature, forward-looking, and free from insults and threats, which he believes resonates with party delegates and the wider electorate.

He concluded by stating that Dr. Bawumia remains the NPP’s strongest candidate to win political power in 2028, adding that his vision, message, and leadership style give the party the best chance of success in the next general elections.
