Ghanaians Are Still Angry With Us — Hon. Ampratwum-Sarpong

Former Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Asante Mampong, Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, has admitted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is still grappling with the emotional impact of its defeat in the 2024 general elections, saying many Ghanaians remain dissatisfied with the party’s performance in government.

Speaking at the East London Chapter End-of-Year Party, Hon. Ampratwum-Sarpong described the loss as decisive and historically significant.

According to him, “The magnitude of the defeat was such that we can confidently say we lost very well. The emotional shock is still being felt within the party. Ghanaians are still angry with us, and that anger continues to reflect in the way they react to us even today.”

He explained that the lingering public frustration has contributed to ongoing internal tensions within the NPP.

“What we are seeing — the disagreements, the misunderstandings, and sometimes even abusive exchanges among aspirants — is all linked to the psychological impact of the defeat,” he said.

“Our people are still processing what happened because the loss was not ordinary.”

Minority Pledges Unity After Primaries

Hon. Ampratwum-Sarpong also revealed that the Minority in Parliament has reached a firm resolution to remain united after the upcoming flagbearer primaries scheduled for January 31.

He stated that the caucus has agreed to put aside internal differences once the contest is over.

“We have resolved that regardless of who wins the flagbearer slot, we will all close ranks and work together in the supreme interest of the party,” he said.

“Unity remains our strongest asset, and we must protect it going forward.”

He urged aspirants and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the internal elections.

“Let us remember that the ultimate goal is collective victory, not individual ambition,” he appealed.

Call for Reflection and Renewal

Looking ahead, Hon. Ampratwum-Sarpong expressed optimism that the party will regain stability after the flagbearer election.

“Our immediate task is to get through the January 31 election successfully. After that, there must be honest reflection so we can correct past mistakes and rebuild public trust,” he added.

He encouraged party members to stay disciplined and focused, saying unity and humility will be essential to restoring confidence among the Ghanaian people.
