The move aims to serve customers with authentic and exquisite locally-crafted jewellery and ornaments and encourage the patronage of made-in Ghana jewellery.

The rebranding and value addition drive, has earned the praises of individuals and some players in the extractive industry.

Taking to his official Facebook page to comment on the rebranding of PMMC’s Jewellery Limited into GoldBod’s Jewellery Limited, Dr. Manteaw noted that “value addition is a game changer in this business. It adds value to our minerals, fetches more export revenue, creates jobs, and related to it additional tax revenue at both corporate and personal levels,”.

On his part, the founding president of Imani Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has commended GoldBod for adding value to the commodity, urging the citizenry to purchase and invest in gold, including Jewellery.

“Folks, gold has proven to be the safest and most reliable store of value. Why not purchase and invest in gold yes, including jewellery,” he wrote on his social media handles.

The subsidiary took a major step toward positioning Ghana as a global jewellery powerhouse with the launch of its new e-commerce platform, jewellery.goldbod.gov.gh.

Addressing media and partners at the event, Managing Director of GoldBod Jewellery Getrude Emefa Donkor said the initiative marks the beginning of a new era in Ghana’s gold value-addition agenda, ending the longstanding cycle of exporting raw gold only to import high-value jewellery from abroad.

“Today, we break that cycle. Today, we are changing that story forever,” she declared.

In a bid to boost the local Jewellery industry, she said the rebrand aims to increase domestic production of high-quality jewellery, reducing Ghana’s dependence on imports.

According to Ms. Donkor, the retooling and rebranding are strategic move to showcase Ghana’s rich gold heritage and promote local craftsmanship.
