President Mahama is truly fighting Galamsey, he’s serving his last term to earn a good name for himself – Hon Akuoko Frimpong,

Hon. Akuoko Frimpong, former District Chief Executive (DCE) of Sekyere Central, has expressed strong confidence in President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to tackling galamsey, the illegal small-scale mining menace that continues to threaten Ghana’s environment and water bodies.
Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM, Hon. Frimpong stated that President Mahama’s renewed fight against galamsey is driven by a desire to leave behind a positive and lasting legacy. According to him, the President, now serving what he described as his final term in office, is focused on earning a good name for himself through decisive leadership and responsible governance.
“President Mahama is truly fighting galamsey,” Hon. Frimpong said. “He is serving his last term, and he wants to earn a good name for himself. This is not the time for empty promises or political convenience; it is the time for action.”
The former DCE emphasized that galamsey has caused extensive damage to farmlands, forests, and major water bodies across the country, affecting livelihoods and public health. He noted that previous efforts to curb the practice often suffered setbacks due to political interference, lack of consistency, and weak enforcement. However, he believes the current administration appears more determined to confront the problem head-on.
Hon. Frimpong praised what he described as clearer political will from the presidency, adding that the fight against galamsey requires firmness, fairness, and sustained enforcement rather than short-term public relations measures. He urged security agencies, regulatory institutions, and local authorities to support the President’s agenda by carrying out their duties without fear or favor.
