Vice President Opoku-Agyemang Commissions Softcare’s 4th Production Line

The Vice President, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has commissioned the fourth production line of Softcare Manufacturing Limited, urging the company to continue expanding, innovating, and demonstrating that Ghanaian manufacturing can compete with the best in the global industry.
She noted that government is restoring fiscal discipline while easing the cost of doing business to make Ghana a more attractive and profitable destination for investment. “When we invest in the private sector, Ghana grows,” she emphasized.
Commissioning the new production line in Accra on Monday, 15th December 2025, the Vice President disclosed that government has allocated GH¢292.4 million in the 2026 Budget to sustain the nationwide distribution of sanitary pads to girls in primary and senior high schools.
She further revealed that the President of the Republic, has directed that all sanitary pad procurements under the programme must be manufactured locally, a move aimed at boosting domestic industry and job creation.
The Vice President stressed that Africa must move beyond exporting raw materials such as cocoa, oil, copper, diamonds, and gold, noting that the continent’s future lies in processing and value addition. She commended the management and workers of Softcare Manufacturing for their vision, partnerships, and commitment to excellence.
Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who received 50,000 packs of Softcare sanitary pads on behalf of government, said her ministry will continue working closely with industry to create decent jobs, particularly for the youth.
“This is the Ghana we want, factories expanding and jobs being created,” she stated.
She also disclosed that at a recent meeting in Morocco, African Trade Ministers pledged to work towards removing non-tariff barriers to promote trade and investment across the continent.
Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, said the commissioning highlights the strong bilateral relations between Ghana and China, calling for deeper cooperation and sustained friendship between the two countries.
Chairman of Softcare Manufacturing, Mr. Y.C. Shen, applauded government’s support for industry and thanked stakeholders who attended the ceremony. He assured that the company remains committed to expanding its operations and contributing to Ghana’s economic development.
