Reinforce the office of the special prosecutor – Hon. Akuoko Frimpong urges

Former Sekyere Central District Chief Executive, Hon. Akuoko Frimpong, has expressed concern over the current state of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), arguing that the institution is no longer fulfilling the purpose for which it was established. Speaking on Kessben FM, he stated that the OSP’s effectiveness appears to have declined under the leadership of Kissi Agyebeng.

According to Hon. Frimpong, the OSP was created to serve as a strong and independent body capable of fearlessly fighting corruption, but recent developments suggest that its impact has weakened. He noted that many Ghanaians had high expectations for the office, hoping it would strengthen accountability and deter corruption across public institutions.

“The purpose for which the OSP was set is not working now. It has to be reinforced,” he stressed, adding that the government must revisit the structure, powers, and operational framework of the institution to restore public confidence.

Hon. Akuoko Frimpong urged policymakers to take immediate steps to empower the OSP with the resources, autonomy, and legal backing necessary to carry out its mandate effectively. He emphasized that without such reinforcement, the fight against corruption may continue to face setbacks, undermining national progress.
