Nurse Baaba cautions Ghanaians against eating leftover foods & self-medication this Christmas

As the festive season approaches, health professionals are urging the public to prioritize their well-being amid the celebrations.

Speaking on Kessben TV’s Mmaa Nkabi show with Akua Yeboah, Nurse Sheilla Baaba Arthur cautioned Ghanaians against the growing trend of self-medication and the careless consumption of leftover foods during the Christmas holidays.

According to Nurse Arthur, the excitement of the season often leads many people to ignore early signs of illness, opting instead to self-medicate with over-the-counter drugs. She warned that such practices can worsen health conditions, mask serious symptoms, and even result in drug resistance. She emphasized that seeking timely medical care is the safest option, especially during periods of increased social activity.

She also highlighted the risks associated with eating improperly stored leftover foods, a common practice during Christmas festivities. Foods kept for long hours without proper refrigeration, she explained, can easily become contaminated and lead to food poisoning, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal infections.

Nurse Sheilla Baaba Arthur encouraged the public to maintain proper hygiene in food preparation, store meals safely, and avoid consuming anything that looks or smells questionable. She stressed that celebrating responsibly includes making mindful health choices that protect individuals, families, and communities.
