Kessben Maakye crew urges Transport Ministry to extend peak-hour bus services to Kumasi

The Kessben Maakye morning show crew is calling on the Ministry of Transport to replicate in Kumasi the recent initiative that saw the introduction of special bus services in Accra during peak hours. The Ministry this week rolled out buses in the capital between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., a move aimed at easing congestion and protecting commuters from the exorbitant fares often charged by commercial drivers during rush hour.
According to the Maakye team, residents of Kumasi face similar challenges, especially in areas such as Adum, Ahodwo, Santasi, and Tech Junction, where traffic intensifies in the late afternoon. Commuters regularly report inflated transport fares during busy periods, a situation the crew believes can be addressed if Kumasi also benefits from a regulated peak-hour bus system.
The team argued that extending the initiative to Kumasi would not only provide relief for passengers but also promote fairness in transport pricing, reduce congestion, and improve mobility across the city. They urged the Transport Ministry to adopt a nationwide approach to the project, ensuring that major urban centers, not only Accra, receive equitable attention.
As discussions continue, many in Kumasi hope the Ministry will act swiftly to introduce similar buses during the 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. window, offering commuters a safer, more affordable, and efficient transport alternative.
