SSNIT Introduces Mandatory Annual Pensioner Certificate Renewal Starting April 2026

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has announced a new policy that will require all pensioners to renew their Pensioner Certificates annually, beginning April 2026.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the revised policy mandates every pensioner—whether they retired compulsorily at age 60 or voluntarily at age 55—to complete the renewal during their birth month each year. SSNIT says the measure is intended to safeguard the integrity of the national pension scheme and ensure that monthly payments are made only to living and eligible retirees.

Under the new process, pensioners can renew their certificates through multiple channels, including the SSNIT Mobile App using facial verification, the SSNIT Virtual Branch, partner banks, or any SSNIT branch nationwide.

To support retirees with mobility challenges, SSNIT has also arranged for home verification visits. Pensioners who require this service are encouraged to call the Contact Centre on 0302 611 622 to schedule an appointment.

SSNIT added that pensioners will receive reminders at least one month before their birth month via SMS, email, or other approved communication channels to ensure they do not miss the annual renewal.

The Trust urged all pensioners to comply with the updated arrangement to avoid any disruption in the payment of their pensions.

For further enquiries, SSNIT directed the public to contact the Deputy Public Affairs Manager, Ms. Jemimah Ofori, on 0243 073 169, or the Media Relations Officer, Mr. Robert Dundas Whigham, on 0249 145 809.
