Ghana Protests Ill-Treatment of Citizens by Israeli Authorities at Ben Gurion Airport

The Government of Ghana has expressed its strong protest and condemnation over the ill-treatment of Ghanaian nationals by Israeli authorities at the Ben Gurion International Airport.
In a press release issued on December 10, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Ghanaian travellers have been deliberately targeted and subjected to inhumane and traumatic treatment since Sunday, December 7, 2025.
According to the release, seven Ghanaian travellers were detained at the airport without justifiable cause, including four members of a Parliamentary delegation attending the Annual International Cybersecurity Conference in Tel Aviv. The detained individuals were only released after more than five hours of diplomatic intervention, while the remaining three were deported on the next available flight.
The Government of Ghana considers the actions of the Israeli authorities as unfairly targeting Ghanaian travellers and has conveyed its strong reservations against the humiliating treatment of its citizens.
“The Government of Ghana considers the actions of the Israeli authorities as unfairly targeting Ghanaian travellers and accordingly conveys its strong reservations against the humiliating treatment of our citizens at the Ben Gurion International Airport,” the statement read.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned officials of the Israeli Embassy in Accra to convey Ghana’s displeasure with the situation, and the government is considering appropriate reciprocal action.
Ghana and Israel have enjoyed cordial relations for over six decades, with significant volumes of unimpeded travel by citizens of both nations. The Ghanaian government finds the Israeli authorities’ justification for the ill-treatment, citing alleged non-cooperation by the Ghanaian Embassy, as “totally untenable”.
The incident has sparked outrage, with the government emphasizing that the actions of the Israeli authorities are “extremely provocative, unacceptable, and inconsistent with our friendly historical relations”.
