Government Withdraws Lithium Agreement from Parliament for Review

The Government of Ghana has withdrawn the Lithium Agreement currently before Parliament for further review and enhancement.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, made the decision following extensive consultations with key stakeholders across the country.

In a statement, the Ministry said the move reflects the government’s commitment to responsive and participatory governance, ensuring that all policies serve the national interest and incorporate the views of the people.

The government has initiated a process to refine the legal instrument, taking into account substantive feedback received from stakeholders. The aim is to ensure that Ghana’s natural resource governance meets the highest standards of fairness and national interest.

A revised agreement, grounded in the national interest and developed in full compliance with Ghana’s laws, will be laid before Parliament in due course.

The Ministry expressed its gratitude to all individuals and institutions whose insights and engagement have guided the process, reaffirming its commitment to working collaboratively towards achieving outcomes that promote the prosperity and well-being of every Ghanaian.
