Why Is Papa Shee Wearing White to Mourn? Lawyer Ohene-Gyan Raises Concerns

Concerns continue to mount over the conduct of musician-turned-evangelist Papa Shee in the aftermath of the death of highlife legend Daddy Lumba, with legal practitioner Lawyer Ohene-Gyan publicly calling out what he describes as “disturbing and disrespectful behaviour.”

According to Lawyer Ohene-Gyan during an exclusive interview with Akua-Piesie Asare Bediako, Papa Shee’s actions—from his choice of attire during court proceedings to his public commentary have raised serious questions about his intentions toward his late “so-called friend,” Daddy Lumba.

The lawyer noted that in Akan custom, families in mourning typically wear black or red to signify grief. However, Papa Shee has been consistently appearing in white outfits—even in court—while claiming to be mourning the late musician.

“White attire, under such circumstances, is highly unusual and contrary to Akan mourning norms,” the lawyer said.

Lawyer Ohene-Gyan further alleged that Papa Shee repeatedly demands certified court documents, only to mislead the public afterward by accusing the presiding judge of bias, bribery, and corruption. He described Papa Shee’s attacks on the judiciary as false, reckless, and an attempt to sow public doubt about the legitimacy of the ruling.

He also criticized Papa Shee for comparing the Ghanaian legal system to foreign courts.

“If Daddy Lumba were a German citizen, all legal and funeral arrangements could have taken place abroad,” he said, “but the judge relied on the legal principle of domicile—which clearly shows that Daddy Lumba’s permanent home was Ghana.”

Lawyer Ohene-Gyan questioned Papa Shee’s motives, asking what exactly the evangelist hoped to gain from the late musician, given his current attempt to “mess up everything after Daddy Lumba’s death.”

He warned that Papa Shee’s persistent accusations, insults, and public attacks on the judge could lead to legal consequences.

“If he believes he has a case, the proper route is an appeal—not defamation of the judge,” the lawyer said.

“Such behaviour can amount to contempt of court.”

The controversy continues to draw public attention as fans of the late musician call for calm, respect, and adherence to due process as legal proceedings unfold.
