Bawumia Must Make Me Running Mate or Speaker — Naa Torshie Told Us, Hon. Banahene Former DCE Alleges
Story by: Akua-Piesie

Hon. Banahene Bediako, former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Central, in the Ashanti Region has alleged that Hon. Irene Naa Torshie Addo — former Member of Parliament for Tema West and immediate past Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) — told a group of former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Ashanti Region that she would not campaign for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia if she is not selected as running mate or considered for the position of Speaker.
According to Hon. Banahene, the remarks were made during a meeting held three months ago between Naa Torshie and the former MMDCEs.
He claims Naa Torshie indicated that she is already in “conversations and agreements” with Dr. Bawumia, but if the outcome does not favour her aspirations, she would be unable to support his campaign.
“Naa Torshie told us plainly that unless Dr. Bawumia makes her his running mate or Speaker, she will not campaign for him. She said she has had conversations with him, and if it doesn’t favour her, she cannot support the campaign,” Hon. Banahene alleged.
The former DCE made the revelation during an exclusive interview with journalist Akua-Piesie Asare Bediako.
The claims have stirred discussions within political circles, as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) continues internal preparations ahead of the 2026 Npp presidential primaries. Neither Naa Torshie nor the Bawumia campaign team has publicly responded to the allegations.
