The imported chickens being eaten by Ghanaians are celebrating their 1-year death anniversary in China – Daniel Baah Achemfour, Ashanti Regional Deputy Secretary for NDC

Daniel Baah Achemfour, the Ashanti Regional Deputy Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) speaking in an interview on Kessben FM, Achemfour alleged that many of the frozen chickens consumed in Ghana are “celebrating their one-year death anniversary in China” before arriving on the Ghanaian market.
According to him, the country’s heavy reliance on imported poultry has created a situation where consumers unknowingly depend on meat that has been slaughtered and frozen for long periods, sometimes up to a year, before being shipped to Ghana.
He argued that this practice raises concerns about food quality, the health of consumers, and the broader implications for local poultry farmers.
Achemfour used the claim to emphasize the need for Ghana to strengthen its local poultry industry, reduce import dependence, and invest in agricultural policies that protect local farmers.
He maintained that prioritising domestic production, a major factor why the Nkoko NkitiKiti project was launched would not only ensure freshness and food safety but also create jobs and boost the economy.
